Some questions and answers about the rolling line

As a manufacturer of steel rolling mills, Luoyang Judian has summarized some basic knowledge about steel rolling to share with you.

1. What materials are commonly used for rolls?

The key to selecting the rolls is to guarantee the quality of the billet.

Common materials for rolls include iron, steel, alloy cast iron, alloy forged steel, etc.

Cast iron rolls can be divided into chilled cast iron, infinite chilled cast iron, ductile iron, high chromium cast iron rolls, etc.

Steel rolls can be divided into ordinary cast steel, ultra-high carbon cast steel, graphite steel, alloy cast steel rolls, etc.

2. What materials are used for the finishing rolls of small section steel and bar rolling mills?

The reduction amount of the finishing mill is very small, and the main task is to ensure the excellent surface quality and dimensional accuracy of the finished profiles.

Therefore, the rolls of the finishing stand are required to have excellent wear resistance and anti-chipping and spalling properties, and the rolls are also required to have certain thermal fatigue properties.

3. What is the roll gap on the rolling mill, and how does it relate to the pass design?

During rolling, the distance between two roll rings on the same pass is called the roll gap.

The function of the roll gap is to make the roll ring or the upper and lower rolls not rub against each other; the second is to adjust the height of the pass to avoid the end face size of the product from being out of tolerance due to the roll jump and the wear of the pass.

4. What is the basis for judging the quality of roll gap adjustment?

The basis for judging the quality of roll gap adjustment is: smooth rolling process, qualified rolling stock size, normal rolling stock shape and even distribution of reduction.

The specific operations of roll gap adjustment include:

(1) Roll gap adjustment to compensate for wear after rolling a certain amount;

(2) According to the size of the rolled piece, the change of the steel material of the rolled steel and the change of the process parameters, the roll gap is flexibly adjusted.

5. How to adjust the roll gap during rolling?

One round bar is pressed on the roll rings on the working side and on the rotating side, and the indentation height of the two round bars is measured and compared with the set value of the roll gap. Adjust the pressing repeatedly until the measured indentation height is equal to the set roll gap value.

That's what we share today. Welcome to Luoyang Judian to learn more about rolling mills.
