What Is A Rolling Mill? How Are the Rolling Mills Classified?

What is a rolling mill? What are the characteristics and classification of rolling mills? The rolling mill is called a rolling mill because it is suitable for rolling many kinds of steel. The rolling mill is mainly used to roll various types of steel, such as: steel rails, I-beams, channel steels, steel sheet piles, unequal angle steels and other types of steel. Next, I will briefly introduce the characteristics and classification of rolling mills. Details are as follows:

Features of the Rolling Mill

1. The complex section pass pattern composed of four rollers can make all the components on the section be compressed at the same time, the deformation of the rolled piece is uniform, the speed difference around the section is small, and the internal stress of the rolled piece is small.

2. Rolls with smaller diameters can be used (because there is no need to make grooves on the rolls) to roll out products with higher legs and wider waists, and the inner sides of the legs can be made without slope. This is difficult to achieve on ordinary two-roll rolling mills.

3. The reduction amount of the legs and waist of the rolled piece can be adjusted independently, which simplifies the adjustment work of the rolling mill during rolling.

4. High rolling precision, less roll wear and lower energy consumption.

Types of Rolling Mills

The form of the rolling mill can be divided into four types according to the structure, namely, closed type, UD prestressed type, SC connecting plate three type and short stress line type rolling mill.

The ordinary closed frame is composed of closed archway, upper and lower horizontal rollers and bearing housings, and the base of the vertical roller box. When changing rolls, horizontal rolls, vertical rolls and their bearing seats can only enter and exit from the window side of the archway. Because the diameter of the horizontal roll of the rolling mill is large, the volume of the shaft seat of the vertical roll is also large, and the width of the window of the archway must be larger than the above two, so the upper beam of the rack is wider, the column is higher, the equipment is heavy, and the rigidity of the rack is also higher. Difference.

The UD prestressed/short stress frame is composed of three parts: the lower frame with the lower horizontal roller and the bearing seat, the upper frame with the upper horizontal roller and the bearing seat, and the middle part with the vertical roller. These three parts are connected together by four hydraulic prestressed tie rods, which can be swung out to the outside, and the added prestress can reach more than twice the maximum rolling force. The rolls of the UD stand are suspended from the top, and the size of the window of the stand is only related to the size of the roll neck and the bearing seat, so the width of the window can be reduced by 40%, the height of the column can be reduced by 20%, and the bending of the beam under the rolling pressure is reduced. One-third, in the case of the same cross-sectional size of the column and the beam, the rigidity of the UD frame is about 3 times that of the closed frame.

The two arches of the SC frame are not on both sides of the horizontal roller, but are arranged in front of and behind the rolling roller, and the archway is integrated with the upper and lower beams with connecting plates. During rolling, the frame archway becomes a steel plate in a plane stress state under the action of rolling force, which improves the strength and rigidity of the entire frame. The top and sides of the frame are open, which is convenient for roll replacement. This frame adopts eccentric structure to adjust the opening degree of horizontal roll and vertical roll, and the adjustment range is small, which is suitable for continuous rolling mill.

The short stress line rolling mill has no ordinary archway, and the part bearing the rolling load is a closed frame with high rigidity. The vertical pressure of the horizontal roll is composed of two upper beams and two lower beams connected together by tie rod In the form of the system, 4 pressing screws are integrated with the pull rod, and the upper and lower beams can be adjusted symmetrically to the rolling line. Compared with the closed frame, the rigidity is good, and the weight of the equipment is only that of the ordinary closed frame. two thirds. At present, most small and medium-sized production lines at home and abroad use this type of machine.

UD prestressed frame and SC connecting plate frame, the main features of the rolling mill are: when changing rolls, the yoke frame is opened, and the vertical rolls are moved out from the opening of the frame, and the open yoke structure is adopted, which can increase the thickness of the frame and improve the rigidity of the rolling mill, Improve the defect of poor rigidity of the closed frame.
