Short Flow Steelmaking

Short-flow steelmaking refers to using various scrap steels as the main raw material to melt iron into steel in electric furnaces, then solidify and roll it into different final products.

The Process of Short Flow Steelmaking

The main process of short-flow steelmaking is to add recycled scrap to an induction melting furnace after the crushing and sorting process, the induction furnace uses electricity energy to melt the scrap and remove impurities to get qualified steel, then the liquid steel is solidified and formed (open mold, vertical casting mold, or continuous casting machine) into billets, which are rolled into steel through rolling mill rolling process.

Scrap Steel Preparation

Classify, clean, and cut scrap steel to meet the needs of electric furnace smelting.

Electric Furnace Smelting

Add scrap steel and alloy materials into the electric furnace, and smelt the iron elements and other alloying elements in the scrap steel into molten steel through electrode heating and carbon-oxygen reaction.

Molten Steel Treatment

Deoxidize, alloy, and adjust the chemical composition of molten steel to meet the quality requirements of the steel.

Continuous Casting or Rolling

The treated molten steel is processed into various steel products through continuous casting or rolling processes.

Advantages of Short Flow Steelmaking

Energy Saving and Environmental Protection

The short-process steelmaking process has low energy consumption, low pollutant emissions, and meets environmental protection requirements.

Flexible Production

The short-flow steelmaking process can flexibly adjust product specifications and output according to market demand.

Reduced Costs

The short-process steelmaking process has lower raw material costs and reduces transportation and processing costs.

Because there is no iron-making procedure, the short process has the advantages of less construction investment, a short construction cycle, low energy consumption, and low emissions. Steel scrap is an energy-carrying and environmental protection resource. Compared with the use of ore iron-making and then steel making, each ton of scrap steel can save about 1.7 tons of iron ore, 350 kg of standard coal, reduce CO2 emissions of 1.6 tons, solid waste emissions 4.3 tons. It has obvious environmental advantages. Short-process steelmaking is the first choice for many small and medium-sized steel plants.
