The Reasons of Roll Breaking

1. Improper cooling method. After the closed water rolling is completed, the cooling water is supplied too early and too quickly, which results in the formation of the rolls.

2. Incorrect installation. This will result in the inhomogeneous force bearing in the work process;

3. Low rolling temperature. When rolling, the temperature of the steel is too low, which increases the deformation resistance, and the rolling force exceeds the strength limit of the roll;

4. The grooves of the rolls are deep, and the working diameter of the rolls is too small, resulting in poor internal quality and insufficient strength of the rolls, resulting in problems such as stress concentration.

The situations all above will lead to roll breaking. Therefore, it is important to follow the operation introduction strictly and enhance the management.

How Should We Do to Avoid the Roll Breaking in the Work?

As to the roll breaking is unavoidable, we should do something to decrease the unnecessary malfunction.

In the work of steel rolling production line, the rolling machine will generate a large radial force to drive the rolls rotate at a very high speed. The abrasion of the rolls is always a vital question to the steel rolling production line. So the rolls must be maintained timely.

Then, how should we maintain the rolls after they work for a long time?

Firstly, they should be uninstalled by the technician with machine tool and prepare them to be cleaned.

Secondly, clean the oil of the surface of the rolls, and check the dimensional accuracy of mating surfaces between chocks and rolls. And, for out-of-tolerance rollers, repair and re-measure the dimensions of the rollers after repairing. If they can meet the process size requirements, they can continue to be used and make detailed records.

Because the outer ring of the rolls will spall even to bearing damage. To reduce the damage, we can change the mutual position of the bearings of the roll.

Then, use absolute ethanol to clean the surface of the roll bearing, dry it, then re-install it on the rolling mill.

These seemingly simple daily and maintenance of the rolls during the use of the steel rolling production line can actually reduce the frequency of failures, reduce maintenance costs, and increase the production capacity of the factory.
